Know the Differences Between Kayak Types

It’s getting to be the time of year when those who are planning to buy a kayak for the 2011 paddling season need to be doing research for their upcoming purchases.  Laacke & Joys usually starts having kayak sales during the Milwaukee Boat Show in January, and Canoecopia will be coming up in Madison on March 11-13.

For those of you who are just getting into the sport, you may need a little more preliminary education before you start trying to decide on manufacturers and models.  With all due respect to surf skis, surf kayaks, and all the other less common and highly specialized types of kayaks out there, I would like to start by helping future kayakers understand the differences between recreational, whitewater, sea, and sit-on-top kayaks.  As this can be a fairly lengthy topic (even when I am trying to keep it to the basics), I am going to do a series of video blog posts in the coming weeks.  Please feel free to e-mail questions that you may have.

    Hi there,

Useful information. It’s good for a first-time buyer to know these things, and hard for them to find the info.
