I just wanted to get out a quick mention of some seminars that I will be doing in the next few weeks. They are free and may be of interest to paddlers in the area of Southeast Wisconsin. No pre-registration is needed.
Tonight, April 14, 2011, I’m doing a seminar on “Useful Knots for Paddlers” from 6-7:30pm at the Downtown Milwaukee Laacke & Joys store at 1433 N. Water Street. I will have lots of rope and webbing available so attendees will be able to learn how to tie a trucker’s hitch, bowline, figure 8, double fisherman’s, clove hitch, half hitch, water knot, and daisy chain a rope or rescue stirrup.
On Sunday, April 17th, I’m giving a presentation on “Getting Started in Paddle Sports” at 2pm at the Gander Mountain store in Waukesha, 2440 E. Moreland Blvd. This would be a good opportunity for anyone thinking about getting into the sport, but wants more information on how to go about it and what is needed for gear.
I’m giving a talk on “Places to Paddle/Planning a Trip” two nights in a row on April 27th and 28th. I will be at the Laacke & Joys store in Brookfield, 19233 W. Bluemound Rd. on Wednesday, April 27th, from 6-7:30pm. I will repeat the presentation on Thursday, April 28th, from 6-7:30pm at the Downtown Milwaukee Laacke & Joys store on N. Water Street.
Finally, I will be doing a presentation on “Kayaking in Waves/Managing the Surf Zone” at the Downtown Milwaukee Laacke & Joys store on Thursday, May 12th, from 6-7:30pm. We will discuss information relating to paddling in waves safely and confidently along with strategies for tackling the surf zone.
I’d appreciate it if you could pass the word around to anyone you know who might be interested in attending. It’s always a lot more fun to conduct seminars with a large group of interested paddlers.
