Age Requirements for Classes:
All students must be at least 18 years of age and meet all essential eligibility requirements for the course. You can view a copy of these requirements by opening the files listed below. Students ages 16 and 17 may take a course with signed consent of a parent or guardian. Students between the ages of 10-15 may take a course if a parent is also enrolled in the same course (This does not apply for classes specifically designated for kids). We certainly encourage parents to sign up for a class with their kids, but it is recommended that you contact Sherri in advance by phone at 262-895-2008 or by e-mail to make sure that the class you are choosing will be appropriate for you and your child.
Essential Eligibility Criteria for Kayak and Canoe Classes:
Everyone who participates in a class, trip, or private lesson through SherriKayaks Outdoor Programs must meet the “Essential Eligibility Requirements” for the class. Simply stated, this is a list of basic physical skills that someone must have in order to safely participate in our kayaking, canoeing, and SUP programs. Very few people will be unable to meet these criteria, but be aware that if you are not able to meet the criteria, it would be very unsafe for you to participate in paddle sports. For this reason, I encourage you to take the time to read the “Essential Eligibility Criteria” below before registering for a class or trip.
Classes are small and can fill quickly, so register early to make sure you get the classes you want. Space is reserved on a first come, first serve basis. There is no on-line registration. You will need to contact me by e-mail or by phone at 262-895-2008 to make sure that there is space available in your preferred class or trip. In order to secure your place in a class or on a trip, you must have your tuition fees paid in full. You can then pay for trips and classes by mailing a check to the address below. If you prefer to pay by credit card, I can send a PayPal invoice to your e-mail. Paddlers are a very responsible and honest group of people, so I say this only to satisfy the lawyers, if your check does not clear, you are responsible for any bank charges that are incurred as a result. Once you are signed up for a class, you will receive an e-mail confirmation with the necessary class/trip information.

For classes and trips that are being offered in partnership with businesses or park districts, you will need to register directly with the partnering organization. Look for phone numbers and links for on-line registration information on the Schedule page of SherriKayaks.com. SherriKayaks gift certificates cannot be used to pay for programs which are being offered in partnership with other businesses and park districts.
Class Size – Maximums and Minimums:
Most classes have a maximum of just 5 students so that I can provide a safe environment with lots of personal attention. If a program has more than six students, there will be a second instructor or guide. However, there may also be minimums that need to be reached in order to run a trip/class. If there are not enough students registered one week before the scheduled start of the class, the course may be cancelled. You will have the option of transferring your registration to another class, or you may receive a full refund.
Transfers and Cancellations:
Weather cancellations are rare, but when they occur, every effort is made to provide students with an opportunity to reschedule into another class. In cases where it is not possible to reschedule, a full refund will be made or students may opt to receive a class credit for the following season which allows them to take the same course the next year with paying any fee increases.
If you need to cancel your registration for any reason, a full refund will be given if you cancel more than 2 weeks before the scheduled start of the program. A 50% refund will be issued if you cancel less than 2 weeks but at least 1 week before the class. No refunds are issued in the last week before a class starts unless the program is cancelled. Please understand that when you register and cancel, you may have prevented someone else from being able to take the class and your cancellation could cause the program to be cancelled which may impact other students and their plans. The above registration, transfer, and cancellation policies are in place to help insure that program slots are being filled by participants who are committed to attending.
Pre-course information will be sent once payment has been received for the class/trip. This will include a list of recommended items that you should bring with you. You will need to fill out a Health History form and sign a Liability Waiver before participating in any class or trip. Those forms can be printed from the pdf files below. If you take multiple courses/trips in a single season, you will only need to fill out the Health History form once, but a new waiver will need to be signed for each outing.
